VPOD: State Senate in the balance with Dr. Quentin Kidd

Last Tuesday, June 9, the Virginia primaries yielded a few surprises: Amanda Chase defeated three decade incumbent State Sen. Steve Martin, Speaker William Howell absolutely steam-rolled his opponent Susan Stimpson, and Steve Heretick defeated nearly four decade incumbent Del. Johnny Joannou. It was an interesting night, for sure.

But what does it mean, if anything? Will the state senate remain in Republican hands or do Democrats have a shot to take it back? What races do we need to pay attention to? What trends are we looking for? And how does this lay the ground work for “Virginia as the bellwether” in 2016?

Find out in this podcast with Dr. Quentin Kidd, director, Wason Center for Public Policy, Christopher Newport University.
