LATimes: Our Privileged Military Class

Honoring the Fallen [1]Well… here you go for one leftist’s opinion of the U.S. military [2]:

Today’s military enjoys a lifestyle that in many ways exceeds that of much of the rest of the country: regular pay raises and lavish reenlistment bonuses, free healthcare, subsidized housing and, after 20 years of service, generous retirement benefits unavailable to many other Americans.

…oh, and this gem:

Military bases are our most exclusive gated communities,” said Phillip Carter, an Iraq veteran who directs the Military, Veterans and Society Program at the Center for a New American Security, a nonpartisan think tank in Washington, D.C.

This is a disgusting little polemic dressed up as an opinion piece, and designed to drive a wedge. Talk to any military family, and see if they’re living in some sort of privileged gated community.

Now tell me — regardless as to your feelings about this piece — but tell me if this opinion of contempt for the members of the U.S. Armed Services isn’t by-and-large believed to be held by most leftists?

Gated communities…

Wanna know what a gated community looks like?

Try that one on for size.

Meanwhile, the rest of us can go back to paying our respects to those warfighters who sacrificed their lives so that the Los Angeles Times can denigrate our men and women currently serving.
