Webb: “Invest In Leadership You Can Trust”

webb_powers [1]God bless the Richmond Times-Dispatch [2].

“We are never going to raise the billions of dollars that the so-called ‘first-tier’ candidates are expecting in the run-up to the 2016 election,” Webb’s exploratory committee said this week in a fundraising appeal.

The appeal adds: “Jim will be in Iowa this week, as always talking directly to people in unscripted meetings and answering their questions in a forthright and honest manner.”

So it won’t only be a battle of cash, but a battle of character…

During an April 8 appearance at the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago, Webb admitted that he is “a very bad fundraiser” and he decried how money dominates political campaigns after the U.S. Supreme Court’s ‘Citizens United’ decision.

Webb noted that under federal campaign finance rules a donor can give his presidential exploratory committee a maximum of $2,700.

“That same person can walk across the street, open up a Super Pac or a 501c nonprofit and spend $200 million if they want,” Webb said.

…and that’s the battle on the right as well.

Thus the theory Bearing Drift has predicted from the word go is indeed playing out.  Webb is running as the anti-Hillary, carving out a demographic of Democratic voter designed to be a knife at the heart of any coalition the GOP should muster — namely in Appalachia where the Democrats have been hammered over Obama’s war on coal.
