Updated: The Foustian double-down

If you’re going to go down, go down big.

From the National Republican Congressional Committee:

John Foust just did a live TV interview [1] with News Channel 8 and once again stuck his foot in his mouth when it came to his “real jobs” comment.

Anchor Bruce DePuyt asked Foust what he meant when he said Barbara Comstock never had a real job. After fumbling a bit, Foust doubles down and makes it clear that he thinks he can demean Comstock’s resume because he says her jobs “do not contribute to solving the problems that we have in Washington today.”

Here’s a good follow up question for Foust. Does he think being a senior official at the Department of Justice post 9/11 doesn’t “contribute to solving the problems that we have in Washington?”

NRCC Statement: “John Foust should build himself a time machine and travel back to the Stone Age – that’s clearly the level he has evolved to on women in the workplace. It’s time for Foust to apologize for demeaning women and acting as if women in the workforce don’t contribute to their communities.” – Katie Prill, NRCC Spokeswoman

Yesterday, CLF began running ads criticizing Foust’s comments [2] and the DCCC has withdrawn their advertising [3] support for this race.

Update: The Comstock Campaign has a few words for Supervisor Foust and his “opinion” about what constitutes contributions to society –

“John Foust just doesn’t get it. Tenth District residents and people from across the country have expressed that his comments about Barbara Comstock never having a ‘real job’ are sexist, false, offensive, insulting to federal employees and women. Even the news anchor agreed that; ‘all of those are real jobs.’ Today’s affirmation shows that he means what he says. Barbara Comstock has served as a Delegate in the Virginia General Assembly for five years, where she serves as the only female chair, heading up the Science and Technology Committee. How is writing legislation to fight Lyme Disease, authoring legislation that cracks down on human trafficking in Northern Virginia and passing the top technology bills in Virginia not a ‘real job’,” says Susan Falconer, Comstock Campaign Manager, in a statement.
