Governor Terry McAuliffe uses his status as Governor to plug a purported health product.
Really.
In the wake of the McDonnell controversy, an obviously tone-deaf Terry McAuliffe smiling for what is basically an online commercial for Chia-bar, a product whose website sounds like it could’ve been written by Johnnie Williams.
“Health Warrior Chia Bar super snacks are the first and only bar with the world’s most powerful superfood—chia seeds—as the main ingredient.
“Don’t be surprised if the fiber, protein, omega-3’s, and minerals in chia have you running faster, lifting heavier, or generally powering you through your day like never before.”
Called “the ultimate superfood” that “fueled the Aztecs” – OK.
But don’t think that Governor McAuliffe just pulled this company out of a hat. Oh, no. Chia Bars are made by Health Warrior, whose CEO just happened to be an adviser to now-Senator Tim Kaine.
“But at a recent meeting with Richmond entrepreneurs, Kaine talked more about developments in his hometown than he did about the federal government.
“The gathering took place at Health Warrior, a company that produces health bars from chia seeds. Its CEO is Shane Emmett, an adviser to Kaine when he was governor from 2006 to 2010.”
Shane Emmett contributed money to Kaine in 2012, which bought having Senator Kaine at that “gathering” at Health Warrior offices and apparently gets McAuliffe as a visual pitchman for their “health bars”.
Wonder if any federal prosecutors are looking for something to do…

“What makes the photo of Gov. Terry McAuliffe touting a nutritional snack especially wince-inducing is that it was snapped within days of his successor, Bob McDonnell, being convicted on corruption, conspiracy and fraud charges. Those charges were connected to McDonnell’s advocacy of Anatabloc – to include posing for a famous photo with the product – and his financial ties to the chief executive of the product’s parent company.
“There’s absolutely no indication that McAuliffe has any financial ties to those selling the nutritional bar. He just took a picture. But it’s still bad optics. While the snack might taste perfectly nice, the image of Virginia’s governor beaming in an endorsement photo induces heartburn.”
