Griffith interviewed regarding his marijuana bill

For some of you, perhaps this is a fitting start to your weekend.

Congressman Morgan Griffith speaks with Fusion [1] about his bill to federally move forward with marijuana becoming a schedule 2 drug for medicinal purposes.

Newsletter subscribers [2] knew about this on April 30:

U.S. Rep. Morgan Griffith (VA-9) has introduced H.R. 4498, the Legitimate Use of Medicinal Marijuana Act (LUMMA), which seeks to legalize the use of marijuana for medical purposes.

“Isn’t it cruel to not allow real doctors, real drug companies, and real pharmacists to use marijuana for legitimate medical reasons for real patients?” said Griffith in a statement. “We use all sorts of opioids under the same scenario that this bill would allow us to use marijuana. The Legitimate Use of Medicinal Marijuana Act would merely allow health care professionals and patients to have another legal tool to use.”

The bill prohibits the federal government from preventing the prescription, possession, transportation, and distribution of marijuana for medical purposes in compliance with applicable state law and would also reclassify marijuana from a Schedule I drug to a Schedule II drug. In 1979, Virginia passed measures to permit the use of marijuana for the purposes of treating cancer or glaucoma. However, this is blocked by the current federal law, the statement said.
