USA Today: “McDonnell Innocent Because His Lawyer Says He’s Innocent” Edition

Get a kick out of this — straight from the pages of the USA Today (courtesy of the McDonnell PR damage control team):

Moreover, an audit done by a former Democratic attorney general of Virginia, who is representing the governor’s office, found that there were no benefits given to either the donor or his company during the entirety of Gov. McDonnell’s term.

More from the USA Today op-ed here [1].

Of course, that “audit” was done by Tony Troy — the same attorney defending Governor McDonnell against investigations into the gifts acquired by the Executive Mansion.

Flimsy defense.

The longer McDonnell remains in office, the worse the impropriety becomes… and the more lasting the stain on public office.
