One of Virginia’s greatest sons was born on this day in 1743 at Shadwell in what was then Goochland county.
To even begin to attempt to describe the effects his legacy continues to have on our nation and world is futile. Suffice to say that we still live in his shadow — with all its complexities, contradictions and promise.
