Using Voting Rights To Hide A Plea For Donations.

Got an email today. Maybe yesterday, depending on when you are reading this. It was from Tim Kaine, and if you are as slack at cleaning up email subscriptions as I am, you may have gotten it too. If you are a Democrat who worships at his feet, you surely got it.

He makes mention of the famous Voting Rights act.

The Voting Rights Act was instituted in 1965 to ensure the end of literacy tests, grandfather clauses, poll taxes, and other methods that were used to systematically disenfranchise African-Americans in the South.

We all agree that’s a good thing, right?

Well, take it from someone who actually remembers the ‘white only’ signs. It was a good thing. Let the NAACP website explain it;

Despite the fact that African Americans and other racial and ethnic minority Americans are guaranteed the right to vote by the 15th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which was passed just after the Civil War in 1870, states and local municipalities continued to use tactics such as poll taxes, literacy tests and outright intimidation to stop people from casting free and unfettered ballots. NAACP goes on to explain that certain enforcement provisions were meant to expire after a time.

States and localities that had a bad record of using such shenanigans had to submit any voting related laws to the Department of Justice for approval. These areas were by and large controlled by Democrat racists. (Let’s face it, they were. The first Democrat president, Andrew Jackson was a notorious racist. Even President Johnson was reported to have said, “I’ll have those ni**ers voting Democrat for the next 200 years.”)

Something that neither Mr. Kaine or the NAACP bothers to explain, it was the Democrat Party that devised all those Jim Crow laws. They created the KKK, imposed poll taxes and literacy tests, and they even forbade the owning of guns lest one get to uppidy.

For the Democrats, who came too late to the civil rights party, to claim a long history of defending them is a joke. They should instead just ask forgiveness and move on.

So, what was Mr. Kaine’s urgent call to action about? He only hints at it, but the whole issue spins around the fact that we should still, after almost 50 years of good behavior, submit any new law concerning voting to the DoJ for approval. Also known as ‘preclearance’ or section 5.

Section 5 was originally slated to expire in 5 years. It’s been renewed periodically, so it’s now almost as old as Tim Kaine. The Southern states have paid their penance, it’s time to send the babysitters home.

One more thing. If you got this email, and click on the “add your name” link, you ultimately come to a donation page. Why was I not surprised?
