Bob FitzSimmonds, a county bureaucrat and former state senate candidate posited on Facebook yesterday [1]that “When Obama is 90 years old and he dies and goes to Hell, he is going to say ‘This is all Bush’s fault.'”
Too cute by a half, Bob.
Brian Kirwin [2] has a better approach:
People don’t know how to do comedy.
Comedy is “Obama before the Lord on Judgement Day seeing his book of sins and says ‘It was Bush’s fault’ ”
That’s comedy!
That would have been much funnier, and not landed Mr. FitzSimmonds and the rest of us conservatives in the all-too-familiar territory of being hypocritical xenophobes.
Are we all disappointed by last week’s elections? Of course. Should we wish ill on fellow Americans and think they’re doomed to damnation? Of course not.
This is the kind of fodder the left is looking for. Another example to point at GOP hypocrisy and proclaim our lack of capacity to bridge the partisan divide.
The reality is that true Christians seek to save the lost…not speculate on what they might say when they meet their maker. “Judge not lest ye be judged yourself,” says the Gospel of Mark.
But before heading down a theological argument, let’s stick to the reality at hand: FitzSimmonds is using an outrageous metaphor to make a point that Obama takes no responsibility for anything.
While I don’t condone the rhetorical example, he’s only saying what a lot of us are thinking: “When does the ‘buck’ stop with the president?”
Our national debt? Exploding deficit? Trade deficit? Benghazi? 23 million unemployed or not seeking work? When does it stop?
Being president with today’s issues cannot be easy. But we need leaders for the job, not those who are willing to throw or blame others for the situation.
Honestly, I pray for the president and hope that we can come out of this crisis. That’s what we all should be doing. Yet, we also need a president who is willing to accept his responsibilities and tell us the truth.
