Quinnipiac University released poll results today that says Gov. Bob McDonnell has an approval rating over more than 2-1 (53-26 percent).
“[McDonnell] is the only Republican office-holder in the seven states surveyed by Quinnipiac University who get positive ratings from women, almost 2-1 in this case, and a plus score from black voters,” said said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “A 2-1 approval rating among young voters doesn’t hurt.”
Specifically, the poll reports that:
* Women approve of McDonnell 48-26,
* Independents approve of McDonnell 58-23,
* African American voters approve of McDonnell 41-32,
* Young voters approve of McDonnell 48-24
“Virginians made it clear in 2009 that they wanted common-sense conservative leadership, and Governor McDonnell has delivered. From day one, he focused on jobs and the economy, balancing the Commonwealth’s budget without treating taxpayers like an ATM,” said Republican Party of Virginia Chairman Pat Mullins. “As the Governor likes to say, ‘Good policy is good politics,’ and this poll continues to bear that out.”
Additionally, the poll states that Virginians are split on lifting the moratorium on uranium mining and 56 percent favor raising tolls to pay for transportation while only 32 percent favor raising the gas tax.
