Friday Whine and Cheese: Labor Day Weekend Edition

[1]Remember the days before 24-hour news cycles and social media, when the campaign season in Virginia began with the Labor Day Parade and ended with both parties doing campaign swings in far Southwest Virginia?

Was it really 34 years ago when Liz Taylor choked on a chicken bone in Big Stone Gap?

I don’t even want to try to imagine how the world of Twitter could have screwed up that news.

But we live in a world now where news is instant. And sometimes it’s wrong.

Or sometimes it’s a live microphone that one former Yahoo! executive thought was turned off.

But what has been most obvious during each night of the Republican convention that just concluded in Tampa.

The American media is becoming unglued.

Brian Kirwin wrote about it earlier this week: “Unbiased” press unhinged at Convention [2].

Brian wrote, “2012 has been a peak of ugliness for the liberals and the press (I like being redundant) and this was their response on the first night. Imagine what they’ll do for the next few nights.”

Either Brian has the gift of prophecy, or he knows all to well that the main stream media is predictable. Because it got worse.

Michelle Malkin [3] said yesterday, “The media crazy train is standing room only.”
We know that we can’t expect anything different over the next few weeks until November 6 (or November 2 if you’re Michelle Obama).

But unlike when it may have taken some of us a couple of days to know about an errant chicken bone, social media allows instant commentary. Instant response.

So next week, when the Democrats drag the styrofoam columns aout of storage in Charlotte, when Barack Obama tries to tell the country he needs a second chance, and when Joe Biden starts his speech with “thank you, thank you for not replacing me” (to which we’ll agree), We’ll be here at Bearing Drift providing the commentary and the real fact checking you won’t get from the mainstrem media.
