This slideshow from the Obama campaign — “The Life of Julia [1]” — has generated a lot of chatter on the right for all sorts of reasons, not the least of which is that two-dimension Julia has every appearance of being a life-long ward of the state.
“Julia” shuttles from government program to government program as she ages, each one of which was either created or staunchly defended by President Obama (and opposed by that dastardly duo, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan). Without Mr. Obama to protect and provide for her, “Julia,” would be at the mercy of Republicans, who would condemn her to a life of ignorance, sickness, pregnancy and penury.
With the President, though, she can look forward to spending her golden years living in bliss:
After years of contributing to Social Security, she receives monthly benefits that help her retire comfortably, without worrying that she’ll run out of savings. This allows her to volunteer at a community garden.
How sweet. Though if all she has is Social Security to live on, Julia’s volunteer work in the community garden may be motivated more by the need for a bit of extra food than by altruism.
