[1]Fresh off of visiting yet another battleground state – Afghanistan – the president has chosen to visit Virginia to launch his 2012 re-election bid – a state he’s been visiting a lot lately.
While the president was quick in his national address last night to take credit [2] for focusing in on Afghanistan and defeating al Qaeda (I pray he’s right), in my latest offering in the Daily Press, I remind Virginia voters of some things the president should also take credit for:
• Failed to produce a budget for three years in the U.S. Senate.
• Promised that their economic stimulus would keep unemployment from going over 8 percent, but let the record show that we’ve had over 8 percent unemployment since February of 2009.
• Had their own “war on women” with 683,000 women losing their jobs since this administration took office, watched the poverty rate for women rise to 14.5 percent – its highest level in 17 years, and has presided over an economy where three of five women over age 65 can’t pay for their basic daily needs.
• Vaulted the national debt to a record $15.6 Trillion.
• Stalled Lease Sale 220 off the coast of Virginia for five years — where natural gas (one of our least costly energy resources) could be abundant.
• Declared that higher energy prices are “good for the world” because “we’re all going to have to adapt how we use energy and how we think about carbon,” said Obama.
• Started a “war on coal” using unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats from the EPA to impose draconian carbon emission standards that are causing electrical plants to close, jobs to be lost, and energy to be more expensive.
• Wasted taxpayer dollars on companies like Solyndra.
• Passed cloture for “ObamaCare” on Christmas Eve by one vote – Webb’s vote. Hardly a bipartisan effort on something that nationalizes 18 percent of our GDP.
• And, just this week, took a direct swipe at Virginia’s, and 22 other states’, right to work laws.
And that just scratches the surface of all the interesting things the president has done the last few years that we get to talk about over the next six months. So, welcome back to the commonwealth, Mr. President! I’m looking forward to the discussion.
