Palin endorses Newt – but just for this week

Sarah Palin tonight stated that if she were a South Carolinian, she would vote for Newt Gingrich – not because she necessarily believes he is the best candidate, but because she wants the nomination race to continue as a means of sharpening and preparing our candidates for the race against Barack Obama:

Palin makes an interesting point:  There is no question that every single remaining candidate is articulating his views and running his campaign more effectively than in earlier months, and that’s because competition breeds excellence.  At last night’s debate, Newt found his voice again, and Rick Perry even sounded coherent!

That said, I continue to believe that Mitt Romney is our inevitable nominee, and I believe the nomination contest has already sharpened and improved him as a candidate.  Now it’s time to unify behind him so he can raise the funds and reorganize his campaign to take on and defeat Obama.
