Marshall collecting signatures for potential U.S. Senate run

Del. Bob Marshall, who only by the narrowest of margins was not the Republican Party’s U.S. Senate nominee in 2008, is apparently ready to give it another go.

The Prince William County delegate has been quietly collecting signatures to get himself on the ballot for the June primary.

According to sources, Marshall is at least collecting in Shenandoah and Lynchburg.

He has made no official announcement that he is running, but one can only surmise that he saw no suitable alternative to former Governor and U.S. Senator George Allen in the current candidate pool and has decided to test the waters with this petition drive.

Candidates for U.S. Senate could begin collecting signatures at the beginning of the year and must have all petitions turned in by March 12. As in the presidential primary, at least 10,000 signatures state wide and 400 per congressional district are required. The State Board of Elections recommends 15,000 state wide and 700 per district.

Update: Josh Huffman also recently posted that he received a box of these petitions in the mail [1], but never indicated he was going to circulate them, as others apparently are.
