Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS group released this ad highlighting Tim Kaine’s dismal record as governor.
Almost immediately, the Kaine Kamp issued a rebuttal press release (get yer own link), complete with stompy foot.
“Did not!”
The Kaine release cites multiple sources that say Virginia can’t end the fiscal year with a deficit because a balance budget is required. Of course Kaine and his BFF Obama don’t like the idea of a federal balanced budget.
But it’s true that when Kaine left office, the budget was balanced…no thanks to the Hinky Eyebrow.
According to the January 22, 2010 Pilot Online quoted by Bearing Drift.
No member of the House of Delegates voted Thursday to support former Gov. Timothy M. Kaine’s proposal to increase the state income tax and effectively eliminate the personal property tax on vehicles.
The vote was 97-0. The Chairman of the Democratic National Committee and part-time Virginia Governor couldn’t get ONE Virginia Democrat to vote for his budget. So, it’s pretty clear that Tim Kaine didn’t balance the budget.
But what about that deficit? According to Sunshine Review, as of September 9, 2009, Virginia had a $7 billion budget deficit.
Hmmmm…who was Governor in September 2009? Oh…
But just a mere four years earlier on July 21, 2005, Virginia announced a surplus of $544 million. Thanks in large part to Mark Warner’s largest tax increase in the history of the Commonwealth, supported of course by Tim Kaine. Ironically, our source for that budget figure is the Kaine for Governor 2005 website.
So, before Tim Kaine was elected, there was a $544 million budget surplus. And, as he was getting ready to leave office, the General Assembly had to fix a $7 billion budget deficit because not even the Democrats could go along with Kaine’s plan to tax us all into oblivion.
