[16]A rare October snowstorm has covered the Shenandoah Valley and surrounding mountains with snow at a time of year when most are still enjoying autumn leaves.
In the central Valley, there was 3″ of heavy, white snow this morning on the deck furniture that had not yet been put away for the season. Snow flurries are not unheard of in this area but this much accumulation is unusual.
Because leaves are still on many trees, branches are drooped to the ground and scattered power outages have been reported from snow-heavy limbs breaking onto the power lines.
With autumn decorations and jack-o-lanterns waiting for Halloween on Monday, it is surreal to see everything covered in white. WHSV TV-3 [17] in Harrisonburg has continued coverage of the winter weather.
