It’s Habeeb vs. Stanley in Roanoke Circuit Court

When they are in Richmond, Del. Greg Habeeb and Sen. Bill Stanley are allies: freshmen, conservative Republican lawmakers, representatives of southwestern Virginia. Today, however, the Roanoke Times reports [1]that Habeeb and Stanley will be opposing counsel in a wrongful death suit filed today in Roanoke Circuit Court.

The suit was filed on behalf of the family of the victim of the fatal Memorial Day shooting that took the life of Jennifer Agee, ex-wife of the gunman (a Franklin County sheriff’s deputy) against both the gunman, former deputy Jonathan Agee, and his former boss, Franklin County Sheriff Ewell Hunt–whom critics say interfered [2]with the standard procedures for intercepting an individual who is known to be en route to commit a crime. Roanoke County Del. Greg Habeeb will represent the family of Jennifer Agee, while Sen. Bill Stanley will represent Sheriff Ewell Hunt. (Stanley has represented Sheriff Hunt in previous legal actions.)

Adding to the drama of this case, Sheriff Hunt, a Republican, is running for reelection [3]this fall. Even if this case never earns the notice of Nancy Grace or Greta van Susteren, it will be fascinating to watch unfold.
