Virginians Cantor and Scott to sit together for State of the Union

U.S. House Leader Eric Cantor (R-7) will be joined by his friend and colleague Rep. Bobby Scott (D-3) tonight for the president’s State of the Union Address.

Breaking with precedent, Republicans and Democrats agreed to “sit across the aisle” tonight to show a degree of harmony in what is traditionally a pretty acrimonious place: the U.S. Capitol.

The demonstration of solidarity follows the murders in Tucson, AZ that critically wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Unfortunately, earlier today, Cantor learned that he had been rebuffed by the Democratic Leader, Nancy Pelosi.

In our view, Cantor lucked out.

Bearing Drift will be bringing you reaction from tonight’s address via podcast around 11 p.m. Guests include Reps. Rob Wittman (R-1) and Randy Forbes (R-4).

Update: In the video, Cantor previews the GOP response to the president’s address.
