Rick Boucher buys car with campaign dollars

Really? Do I even need to explain how incompetent this is? From the Morgan Griffith [1] campaign:

Internet bloggers reported this morning the incumbent had purchased a luxury automobile via his campaign fund. The purchase is listed on the Federal Election Commission website:

“At a time when people are struggling to pay their bills, no congressman should be purchasing a new car with campaign contributions,” says Griffith. “Rick Boucher should be able to purchase a car himself with his $174,000 congressional salary.”

According to campaign finance reports, the vehicle cost his congressional campaign $29,352.17, which is just under the $34,506 mean income for residents of the district. (Reference: Almanac of American Politics; U.S. Census Data.)

Griffith also echoed his request from last week calling on Congress to cut their pay by 10 percent or roughing $17,300.

He says the people of southwest Virginia are having a hard time making ends meet, while our Congressional leaders like Nancy Pelosi and Rick Boucher are setting back and enjoying grandiose salaries. “If Pelosi and Boucher cannot live on $155,700 a year (with the 10 percent pay cut), than they should go home. And no wonder we have a trillion dollar deficit.”
