And the news in the 10th is…

While most other Virginia congressional districts are gearing up for one or more primaries next month, the parties have already decided their candidates for the 10th congressional district. Having drawn no primary opponent this year, Republican Congressman Frank Wolf is set to slide to an easy victory in November over Democrat nominee Jeff Barnett.

So, in the 10th, it is an intra-party contest that is drawing GOP activists together this Saturday, May 22nd.

Howie Lind [1]of Fairfax and Dave Schmidt [2] of Loudoun are battling for the votes of hundreds of delegates who registered earlier this year for the 10th District GOP convention.

Unlike prior contests for the post, Congressman Wolf has not endorsed either candidate for chairman, leaving the candidates and their supporters to make their case to any delegates who might be undecided.

Endorsing Lind, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli told a crowd of supporters earlier this month that Lind would finally fix the leadership of the 10th district:

In front of his home unit committee, Schmidt, who is endorsed by outgoing 10th District chairman Jim Rich, made the case for his own candidacy:

On Saturday, we’ll find out which man will lead the 10th district for the next two years.
