Shortest campaign ever? Riesenberg drops out in 11th

On April 8 I reported [1] that local businessman Kurt Riesenberg had announced his intentions to run for Congress in the 11th district. Apparently unaware of the difficulties surrounding a run for Congress, Riesenberg dropped out. From his website:

“It is with sincere disappointment that I announce suspension of my campaign. Evidently it is very difficult to squeeze 5 months of work into 3.5 weeks. The clock was not on my side to satisfy requirements of a Go-NoGo primary filing deadline on 09 April 2010.

“Despite this unfortunate outcome, substantial efforts were made to have the campaign be a positive reflection of issues important to the voters of Virginia’s 11th Congressional District, albeit over a very short period of time. The opportunity to have met so many people, inject my perspectives into the dialogue, hear constituents’ stories and feel the growing support for my positions was encouraging. The welcome feeling of the party leadership and faithful for a newcomer, the opportunity to speak at district events, and the challenge of establishing clear, concise positions on tough issues was an experience I will not forget, and look forward to as future opportunities present themselves… I don’t make the same mistakes twice.”
