Tonight, voters in the 37th State Senate District will have the opportunity to select the Republican nominee in the special election to fill State Senator Ken Cuccinelli’s seat. There will be a firehouse primary at Centreville High School [1] from 6-10 p.m. There are three candidates vying for the nomination: Steve Hunt [2], Marianne Horinko [3], and Will Nance [4].
As a resident of the 37th District, I will be providing some live coverage tonight. Additionally, I wanted to provide insight into the race. This will most likely be a low turnout primary, as most of the people living in the district commute from work in D.C., Arlington, and Alexandria. However, I would say the chances are in Steve Hunt’s favor, as he has high name recognition from his prior service on the Fairfax County School Board and his service within the community and the Republican Party. It is too soon to tell, who will win, as the voters will make the best decision. The other candidates also boast impressive qualifications as well.
