Howell Endorses Hager

Speaker of the House William J. Howell has sent a letter endorsing John Hager for Chairman of the RPV. I like this paragraph:
National Republican organizations are taking note of RPV’s new progress. Unlike years past, the RNC’s ‘Victory 08′ operation and the McCain Campaign will work ‘hand-in-hand’ with RPV to elect our Party’s presidential, Senate, […]

Republicans losing in everything

A couple days ago I wrote about how RPV’s new plan to tie party growth to dollars was a good one, provided there was a message to go along with it. That sentiment had no real basis in any poll or inside information, just an intuition.

The 8th Congressional District race for the GOP nomination absolutely fascinates me.

Meyer responds to Kirwin criticisms

Meyer Strikes Back – Kirwin is Wrong Once Again
By Bruce Meyer / May 7, 2008
On May 3rd, 2008, Brian Kirwin posted a story about the 2nd District Convention. In his story, there were many errors and it was flush with bias.

Are Chesapeake Republicans a one-family operation?

If you read today’s Virginian-Pilot, you’d certainly think so. It would appear that all the credit for the virtual Republican sweep in the city council elections can be attributed only to the Forbes’ family. However, while the Forbes’ certainly deserve a lot of credit for working to build the Republican Party in Chesapeake, […]

Jim Gilmore at 7th CD Convention

Former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore spoke to the home crowd at the 7th Congressional District Convention on Saturday, May 7, 2008, and they cheered enthusiastically. Gilmore was upbeat, loose, and confident, but well aware that he will be the underdog compared to mega-millionaire Mark Warner. After thanking the crowd and reviewing his life-long ties […]

Gingrich calls for Republicans to be, well, Republicans

In this week’s newsletter from Newt Gingrich, he makes a compelling case for Congressional Republicans to make bold changes before Memorial Day and start taking action on those changes ASAP. Given the facts on the current state of the GOP, how is it possible for him to be ignored?
Read his “nine-step” plan for success.

Marshall’s Monger of Doom

At the 7th Congressional District Convention on Saturday, former Gov. Gilmore spoke and got an enthusiastic reception. (More about that later today or tomorrow). Later, Pat McSweeney, the surrogate for Bob Marshall (Gilmore’s nomination rival) spoke. Let’s say this surrogate did not win too many hearts and minds, which you might guess from seeing the […]

7th CD Convention Blogging Pt. 1

The 7th Congressional District convention was held Saturday in Henrico County. About 398 delegates (and about 475 people overall) were there. It was planned extremely well and ran smoothly. The fashion item of the day was the bright red “Team Cantor” t-shirt, and the Henrico County Rep. Committee provided a continental breakfast for all.
While there […]

Ellmore picks up endorsements

Up in the eighth district GOP contest between Mark Ellmore and Amit Singh, Ellmore announced today that he’s received several endorsements from Republican leaders in the district.
From an Ellmore release:

Meyer Fired

Republican 2nd District Chairman Bruce Meyer walked into today’s convention with the endorsement of almost every Republican elected official in the district (not that many of them were there). He walked out with only 34% of the vote, as veteran of the Reagan White House Gary Byler swept into the chairmanship, and brought most […]

VPOD w/McDonnell after he and Bolling receive, effectively, the Republican nomination

This morning, a letter was released from every Republican member of Congress from Virginia, every Republican District Chair in Virginia, the entire General Assembly GOP leadership team, the leadership of the State Central Committee, and a host of other prominent and involved Republican leaders voicing their strong support of Bob McDonnell for Governor, and Bill […]

Drake launches new Web site; endorsed by U.S. Chamber of Commerce

Pretty good day for U.S. Rep. Thelma Drake (R-VA02). She launched her new web site and, in unrelated news, was endorsed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
