Wow…Hampton Roads is big!
“I’m so glad to be here in Norfolk,” [Michelle Obama] said at Old Dominion [University]. “I knew it was big. I knew hundreds of thousands of military personnel and family lived and worked here. But I wasn’t prepared for just how big it is.”
Yes, and we even have running water and electricity.

Hamdan guilty, no thanks to Obama
If it were up to Barack Obama, Salim Ahmed Hamdan, a trusted confidante of Osama bin Laden, would not have been found guilty today by a military tribunal. However, John McCain, who supported the proceeding, was predictably pleased:
“I welcome today’s guilty verdict in the first trial held under the Military Commissions Act (MCA). This [...]
Bill Day is running for Congress
Vivian reported yesterday that Bill Day was the THIRD Democratic challenger to be selected in the 1st Congressional District to face the Republican incumbent Rep. Rob Wittman.
BVBL, Riley and DJ wasted little time in providing their assessment of the choice.

Detroit News rips Obama’s energy plan
Obama announced his energy plan in Michigan yesterday, calling on Detroit to retool and produce one million Hybrid cars by 2015, among other proposals.
In today’s Detroit News, the editorial page has some choice words for Obama’s plan:

Paris Hilton and Offshore Drilling
It seems that Paris Hilton and offshore drilling are the two hot topics this week on the presidential campaign. Am I the only one who sees a sick and twisted irony in this?

Cantor critiques Obama’s energy plan
In a conference call today, Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA07), under consideration to be McCain’s vice presidential pick, laid out the case as to why Obama’s newly released energy plan is not in the best interests of the country:
Rep. Eric Cantor: “I believe that what we will see today is Barack Obama attempting to paint a [...]
McCain leads in Rasmussen poll
John McCain now leads Barack Obama in Rasmussen’s daily tracking poll, 47%-46%.
Obama supporters have argued that these polls under sample support for Obama due to his supporters not having land-line telephones (young voters with cell phones, to name one demographic).
In order to dispel the spin that Obama is still actually winning, McCain will [...]
Nye formally announces energy plan
Glenn Nye, challenger to Rep. Thelma Drake in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, unveiled his energy plan over the weekend.
The energy plan doesn’t deviate much from what he told Bearing Drift and state Democratic convention-goers in June, when he highlighted closing any tax loop-holes for energy corporations and diverting that money to alternative fuel research.

Cantor being vetted by McCain
A recent Politico article has confirmed that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain’s vice presidential search team has asked for and received the records of Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA07).
This prompted some activity in the Virginia blogosphere:
DJ said: “This is the equivalent of meeting the parents”
Jane wrote: “Please, oh please, let’s have a McCain-Cantor / [...]

Obama “evolves” position on off-shore drilling
Seems like $4/gal. gasoline is getting the Democrats attention, despite objections from their left base.
Just like Mark Warner, who vetoed drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf while he was governor, is now running an ad that says he’d keep it open as an option, Barack Obama is now also saying he’d consider off-shore drilling. [...]
“The One” is now deadlocked with McCain
Gallup released their daily tracking poll and it’s a nine-point Obama lead no more. McCain and Obama are tied at 44.
In honor of the occasion, McCain released this new ad:

Republicans as terrorists?
When I say that Obama’s economic policies appear to be right out of the Communist Manifesto, I have facts and statements to back it up. My statement, while a bit extreme, is meant to get readers (or listeners) to think. I don’t actually believe Obama is a card-carrying member of the Reds, [...]
