Politico wonders if the right will ever get cyber-journalists
Politico writes today that the left is kicking the right’s butt when it comes to on-line journalism because folks on the right aspire to be William F. Buckley, Jr. while folks on the left want to write for the NY Times.

Suffolk denying bloggers press releases
Yesterday, I received an interesting phone call from Dave Forster of the Virginian-Pilot asking about the blog “Inside Suffolk Virginia“, an obviously local blog that covers mainly the goings-on in local government, which has had their request to receive press releases denied by the city’s press secretary.
Personally, this baffles me.
In today’s highly saturated media market, […]
NLS, VB Dems….BLOCKED!
I have a friend who is currently traveling in China and tried to access several Virginia blogs from there. Of note, NLS and VBDems are blocked by the Chinese, but apparently BD goes through just fine.
On the contrary, the Virginian-Pilot firewall completely blocks BD, but all the others seem to be o.k.
I’m not sure […]

Lowell Feld, creator of the noted blog from the left, “RK“, recently penned a book (along with co-author Nate Wilcox) about the contributions of bloggers to the election of Sen. Jim Webb in 2006 called “Netroots Rising“. The book also explores other campaigns and how the concept of blogging is changing how elections are […]

In this week’s show, Shaun Kenney and Brian Kirwin join J.R. to talk the latest in politics in Virginia. This week’s show includes:
J.R. dives right into the discussion by wondering when we’re going to “Drill here! Drill now! And Pay Less!”;
Brian illustrates how little Democrats have to offer when it comes to transportation (including […]
Ivory-tower academia does not disappoint in Webb VP buzz article
Since September 2006, there has been speculation on the web, particularly here in Virginia, that Webb might not make it the whole six years as our U.S. Senator and would likely be on any of the then-unknown Democratic nominee’s vice presidential short list. However, Dale Eisman’s article today in the Virginian-Pilot makes it appear […]
Hey, NLS — the letters on that bus are “RK”
“Ben’s NLS blog is definitely popular amongst online political afficionados, but I doubt it had much effect in the ‘non-plugged-in’ political world.” — Raising Kaine

Is a corporate or government blog “blogging”?
One of the things that makes blogging, to me, an interesting form of communication is that I am reading the thoughts and opinions of people who are regular, everyday citizens. The communication is unscripted. It’s not vetted. It’s not looked at to ensure “proper messaging” or some form of “strategic communication.”
Now, everyday, […]
