Morgan Griffith Angry with House Democrats “Publicity Stunt” Sit In

Yesterday, the House of Representatives Democratic Caucus staged a “sit-in” on the US House floor to protest the lack of a vote on gun control measures. This act was completely out of order and at times very petty. And there was one member of the Virginia Republican Delegation who took to Facebook to air his grievances with the Democrats.

Yesterday afternoon, Morgan Griffith posted this:

“BREAKING: Democrats have staged a sit-in on the House floor in an effort to pass gun control legislation.

I can assure the voters of the 9th District that I will stand firmly for the 2nd Amendment. I WILL NOT support legislation that includes more gun control.”

Then, Griffith posted late last night:

“The House is still working tonight and I don’t plan to be bullied, intimidated, or cowed by the liberal Democrats, who are violating the rules of the House and precedence dating back to the founding of Congress, into taking action that would lead to more gun control.

This is a liberal Democrat strategy where they say they only want an inch when in reality they want a mile.

When it comes to our Constitutional right to bear arms, I and many of my Republican colleagues will not compromise away the rights protected by our Constitution.

Hundreds of protesters supporting this liberal Democrat cabal are outside the Capitol chanting:

“We will remember in November! We will remember in November!”

I hope you will remember in November that it is the liberal Democrats who want you to give up your Constitutional right to bear arms.

Lastly, at about 4 in the morning, Griffith sounded off again:

“I am proud to say that we successfully defended your Constitutional right to bear arms.

The liberal Democrat shenanigans lasted until roughly 3:15 AM but we firmly stood our ground and prevented further gun control legislation.

Yesterday at about noon, opponents of the 2nd Amendment turned The People’s House into a theater. The gun control lobby attempted to pressure those of us who believe in the Constitution to strip the rights of law-abiding citizens with their publicity stunt, but they failed.

Since taking public office, I swore to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. I have every intention of upholding that oath.”

Those of us who know Morgan know that this is not just about guns. Morgan Griffith is one of the most passionate defenders of gun rights in the United States House. However, knowing Morgan, this has a lot to do with his passion for the regular order in the House and Robert’s Rules. Congressman Griffith is a stickler about the rules, so much so that Speaker Ryan appointed Griffith to represent the House Freedom Caucus on the Rules Committee Task Force. For those of you that don’t remember, that was the task force instituted to reform the Rules Committee that was formed shortly after Paul Ryan was elected Speaker.

Morgan Griffith is fighting the good fight in Washington and I am thankful that he represents Southwest Virginia.
