So, a candidate who is misogynistic, antagonistic, pugilistic, and nationalistic is about to win the Republican nomination.
Interesting.
Where are conservatives like me to go?
I’m certainly not a populist, otherwise I’d be more popular and interested in the GOP presidential candidate who has no plan and has alienated entire demographics. If life truly were a reality show, I’m sure I’d have gleaming white teeth, great wealth, and a hot wife. Well…1 of 3 isn’t bad!
But I’m certainly not a tax-and-spend socialist either, otherwise I’d be a Democrat who is plagued by white guilt and “feeling the Bern,” all the while praying that my mediocre academic performance in a mediocre educational system would guarantee me a college education and a six-figure job with free health care for life. Um…no.
So, today, believe it or not, I – and many of you – still have to vote. It really is Election Day in many Virginia communities. Here in Hampton Roads we have mayoral races in Norfolk and Chesapeake. And there are community elections all over the place.
So, you know what I still am? A conservative. I believe in the government that is closest to me will govern best; so, I am going to vote and volunteer in today’s election. And I am going to vote for candidates who care about my community and fight hard for the things I believe in.
And, you know what else? After I vote and volunteer, I am going to keep working and blogging for things I believe in, like lower taxes, strong public safety, freedom of choice in education, free enterprise, religious freedom, a balance between energy production and environmental protection, efficient and safe transportation, and life. Among others.
While we focus on the national and may be prone to look to our toes – instead, look at the grass and remember our roots. And never stop working and participating.
