VPOD: Morton Blackwell

Morton Blackwell is the dean of Virginia Republican politics. With experience dating at least as far back as him being the youngest delegate for Barry Goldwater at the 1964 convention, Mr. Blackwell has been actively involved in party politics at all levels and dealing with almost every circumstance (see his bio).

In this podcast, Blackwell, who is running for reelection to RNC national committeeman, a post he’s held since 1988, describes his background and experience to fill the role and serve the Virginia conservative.

But don’t mistake “experience” for “establishment.” Blackwell led the charge against the so-called “Romney rules” for party conventions – a set of rules deliberately meant to keep Ron Paul from having any floor demonstrations and receiving any delegate votes. Blackwell continues his effort to change the “8 state majority” rule, but has received significant push-back from the RNC. You can read Blackwell’s description of the rules at Red State.

Regardless, there is much still to do and Blackwell is prepared to take the reins one more time on the RNC committee representing the commonwealth.
