Well, we’ve crossed the Rubicon.
Just two days after leaking that Ted Cruz’s floundering presidential bid is considering vetting Carly Fiorina as his Vice President in the event he wins the nomination, Cruz has scheduled a ‘major announcement’ for today at 4 PM.
WMUR of New Hampshire is reporting that that announcement is to indeed announce Carly Fiorina as his Vice Presidential pick.
If you need a minute to scream into a pillow, I understand. Take it.

So we have the runner-up in the Republican nomination fight announcing his hypothetical VP pick, for his hypothetical general election run. But not only are we dealing with false realities, we’re also picking the 7th place finisher in New Hampshire, who’s highest polls peaked in the summer of 2015 when Donald Trump insulted her looks.
This isn’t a John Kasich or Marco Rubio pairing that will swing voters into the Cruz camp.
This is a blatant political ploy to use a female candidate to offset Cruz’s overwhelming negatives with women, and in the completely unrealistic event of a general election, a desperate attempt to play off Hillary Clinton’s historic candidacy.
This is also a haphazardly done vetting process, with the tools and resources of the RNC and third-party groups not being utilized. The vetting process takes weeks, months. Ted Cruz campaign would have you believe that in the midst of losing Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, New York, Delaware, et al. that they also were vetting VP candidates.
I think we’ve gone full 2016 at this point, if somehow we haven’t gotten there already.
