In lieu of Governor Terry McAuliffe’s executive action to provide more than 200k felons in Virginia their right to vote, sit on juries, and become notary publics, among others, the Republican leadership of the General Assembly has called for the governor to call a special session of the legislature to come to debate and a consensus on the policy.
From a joint release by Speaker of the House of Delegates William Howell and Senate Majority Leader Tommy Norment, they said that the Mcauliffe order was “a matter of great consequence to the people of the Commonwealth of Virginia,” and characterized the action as a “flagrant disregard for the Constitution of Virginia.”
