Lynchburg attorney and former Lynchburg GOP chairman Mark Peake has announced his intention to replace State Senator Tom Garrett, should his bid for Congress in VA-05 be successful.
According to Peake’s release, he has already raised and pledged $25,000 for his campaign from 50 individuals — not a bad start.
VA-22 was the famous “scrapple district” from the 2010 redistricting session, where Garrett moved into the district to ride a Tea Party wave to victory in a five-way contest. Garrett ran uncontested in 2015 and was rumored to be angling for a run for governor against former RPV Chairman Ed Gillespie before Rep. Robert Hurt made the call not to run for re-election in 2016.
