Hypocritical (Adjective)- behaving in a way that suggests one has higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case.
You can always count on Debbie Wasserman Shultz to leap into the jaws of hypocrisy. This time it involves Jeb Bush and the Washington Redskins.
In an interview on “The Arena” radio show, Bush was asked about the Washington Redskins name. Bush had this to say:
“I don’t think they should change it,” he said in an interview with ABC’s Rick Klein and ESPN’s Andy Katz. “But again, I don’t think politicians ought to have any say in that to be honest with you. I don’t find it offensive. Native American tribes generally don’t find it offensive.”
Bush compared this to the fight in his state while he was in office to change the name of the Florida State Seminoles:
We had a similar kind of flap with FSU, if you recall, the Seminoles. And the Seminole tribe itself kind of came to the defense of the university and it subsided,” he said. “It’s a sport, for crying out loud. It’s a football team. Washington has a huge fan base — I’m missing something here, I guess.”
These comments quickly drew criticism from Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz:
“Jeb Bush’s support of the Washington football team’s name and mascot is extremely insulting to Native American people and is one of many reasons he will not earn the Native American vote,” she said. “The team’s name is a racial slur that perpetuates negative stereotypes of Native American people, and reduces proud cultures to an insulting caricature.”
The media proceeded to attack Bush because of recent donations from Redskins owner Dan Snyder to the “Right to Rise” Super PAC that is supporting his bid for the White House. Redskins owner Dan Snyder did in fact give the Super PAC $100,000.
How does all this make Rep. Wasserman Shultz a hypocrite? Does anyone know who else supported the Redskins while also receiving PAC donations from Redskins owner Dan Snyder?
Governor Terry McAuliffe also took money from Snyder. McAuliffe’s “Common Good VA” PAC took in $25,000 from Snyder during the 2013 gubernatorial election. When asked in a debate about the team name, both he and Ken Cuccinelli agreed that the government should not be involved in the decision.
Governor McAuliffe has attended Redskins training camp in Richmond several times. He has hosted the Washington Redskins at the Executive Mansion for dinner. When he was asked about the team’s name at training camp, McAuliffe had this to say:
“It is not up to a governor to tell a private business what to do with their business,” McAuliffe said. “I’m about growing our economy. I’m about diversifying our economy. I look out here in this field and I see the fans in the stands and the local business selling — that’s my job as governor.”
When asked about the Redskins possibly moving to Virginia, the Governor said:

So…when Jeb Bush has no problem with the Redskins name, he’s a racist and a bigot. But when Terry McAuliffe does it, he’s a job creating Governor?
Hypocrisy.
I’m a proud fan of the Redskins. The team has been an institution in the DC area for years and Dan Snyder has every right to keep the name as is. This game of trying to get rid of the Redskins name is a purely political ploy.
As Washington Redskins fan, thank you Gov. Bush, for standing up for them. And as always, HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!
