A Democrat just entered the race for the White House

Fellow Republicans, it would be a terrible mistake to nominate former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. Governor Bush is an old school liberal Republican who has expressed, on many occasions, his admiration for policies that are in no way conservative. Governor Bush has routinely made it his goal to be a moderate, boring, bland, and vanilla candidate. If he were nominated, we would lose in a landslide not seen since Reagan beat Mondale in 1984.

First off, Jeb is a candidate of the past, from a political dynasty from the past. Wait: doesn’t that sound like someone else who is the front-runner of the other political party of this country….wait…what’s her name?

Governor Bush originally ran for Governor 20 years ago, lost the first time, and then was first elected in 1998. His last election was in 2002. It’s almost like Marco Rubio’s quote could apply to both Governor Bush and Secretary Clinton:

“We can’t do that by going back to the leaders and ideas of the past. We must change the decisions we are making by changing the people who are making them….

Just yesterday, a leader from yesterday began a campaign for President by promising to take us back to yesterday.

But yesterday is over, and we are never going back. We Americans are proud of our history, but our country has always been about the future. Before us now is the opportunity to author the greatest chapter yet in the amazing story of America.”

Governor Bush and Secretary Clinton are so similar, so bland in their views, it sounds like they could run together.  They agree on immigration, education, and their foreign policy sounds oddly similar. I agree with Laura Ingraham at this point: let them run together! What difference does it make?

And I say this as a huge fan of President George Herbert Walker Bush and President George Walker Bush. There are more pictures of Bush 43 in my house than of my mother (and that is a fact). I love Bush 41 and Bush 43. But their time has passed. The times of political dynasties and of choosing candidates because “it’s their turn” have long passed. We cannot expect the party (tea party, social conservatives, libertarians ,and establishment alike) to unite around a candidate whose principles waver so often it’s difficult to tell if he is a Republican or Democrat.

Secondly, his views on illegal immigration are just wrong, and I say this as the guy who supported Eric Cantor. The view that illegal immigration is an “act of love” is just wrong. It is not an act of love, it is a crime. I don’t mind if people come to America, work hard, pay their dues, and wait in line to become a citizen. America is a nation of immigrants, and we should be proud of our culture. We are all God’s children, but the law, and the rule of law, are important. We cannot seriously allow a presidential candidate of the Republican Party to say this on a debate stage:

At that point, we sound just like Secretary Clinton. If both candidates say the same thing, what motivation does the voter have to go to the polls? Why would you go vote with both candidates advocating for the exact same position on an issue that drives voters to the polls?

Thirdly, and this is my biggest “beef” with Governor Bush, more federal regulations on education are wrong and a violation of the Republican Creed.

In the Virginia Republican Creed it says that “That the Federal Government must preserve individual liberty by observing Constitutional limitations.” The 10th Amendment it said: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Then why on Earth would Governor Bush want to expand Common Core and impose MORE federal regulation on our teachers and our schools, when those regulation are unconstitutional in the first place!? Our schools are failing due to federal regulation and Jeb wants to increase regulations?

We should be advocating for more children to have vouchers, and providing more opportunities for private or parochial schools. Emphasize learning, not test taking.

With the other party running a 67-year-old retread with the liberal policies of yesterday, should we as Republicans nominate someone who has not been in office since 2006? Never mind that he has somewhat questionable views. Never mind there is polling data that says many voters want neither Bush nor Clinton.

The Republican Party has solid bench of great candidates. We must nominate a candidate who can relate to the millennial generation, not just talk at them. We must nominate someone with true conservative values. As a party and as a country, we cannot just let the presidency be passed like a crown from one family or the other. We must demand new candidates, with new ideas, and a bold vision for America.

In the end, I will support whoever gets the nomination. But until then, it’s time to fight. Pick your candidate, and go fight for them. God willing, we will do better than nominating the bland, boring, too liberal for me, candidate that is John Ellis Bush.
