Democratic Sen. Chap Petersen takes a swing at the Arlington BoS, which has decided that the Washington Redskins should drop the name and try something else:
The Arlington County Board on Tuesday joined the call for the Washington Redskins to change the team’s name, calling it a “objectionable … a racist slur and derogatory.”
J. Walter Tejada (D), the board’s vice chairman, proposed the resolution. While the team historically has bound the region together, he argued, its name “serves to divide us, diminishes our humanity and erodes our integrity.”
To which Petersen replied that, as the Board was on a mission to rename things, perhaps it should start with itself. Among his suggestions:
*The Vicious Vegans.
*White Liberal Angst.
*The Million Dollar Bus Stops.
And many more.
The only fault with Petersen’s list — aside from its lack of trigger warnings and directions to designated safe places — is that it will be taken as a serious policy proposal. This will send the professionally offended into orbit, and may result in a drum circle being established outside his district office.
