Senate gets its old rules back

Something rather important happened in the state Senate that some folks, and certainly the press, might have missed. Jim Hoeft didn’t:

Senate restores rules (32-7 bipartisan vote)
From a state Senate GOP press statement:

The Rules restored by the Senate include:
• Returning to 15 members on all standing committees;
• Ending special powers for the Chairman of the Committee on Rules related to legislation;
• Retaining Co-Chairmen of Senate Committees on Finance and Courts of Justice; and
• Using the Rules approved when the Senate organized for the 2012 Session as the basis.

This puts longstanding senate precedent (we’re talking generations) back into order after the Dems drastically changed them last year.

Readers of “The Last Word,” Jim’s trenchant write-up of the day’s events, knew all about it. If you don’t subscribe yet, you should. It’s free, it’s excellent material and it’s also quite witty.
