Former GOP lieutenant governor candidate Susan Stimpson has made it official: she’s challenging House Speaker Bill Howell in 2015…
“Bill Howell has been a friend, but we have profound policy disagreements,” Stimpson said in a written statement. Among other things, Stimpson took issue with Howell’s support for a tax-heavy, $1.2 billion-a-year transportation funding overhaul passed in 2013 under then-governor Robert F. McDonnell (R).
Howell’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But last month, Howell spokesman Matthew Moran said, “The speaker completely respects Susan’s decision to participate in the democratic process [and] believes that competition is healthy.”
The new candidate’s website is here. And for the curious, it’s put together by Bull Elephant Media, who also produce a blog of the same name.
Fascinating.
