New York’s Democratic Committee found itself in hot water for sending letters to people that, essentially, threaten them if they decide not to vote in the mid-term election:
“Who you vote for is your secret. But whether or not you vote is public record,” the letter says.
“We will be reviewing voting records .?.?. to determine whether you joined your neighbors who voted in 2014.”
It ends with a line better suited to a mob movie than a major political party: “If you do not vote this year, we will be interested to hear why not.”
It appears Virginia’s Democrats, not wanting to be left out, hired the same vendor and sent voters a similar letter:
“Whether you vote is public record,” the mailer, which tells the voter her voting record is “below Virginia’s average,” says. “Official offices make available the list of who voted and who didn’t vote after each election.”
The mailer was sent by the Democratic Party of Virginia to an older voter who recently moved into the state and thought the message was “threatening.”
Vote, or else.
