Gerry Connolly’s mailers are just getting worse and worse.
October saw a barrage of last minute attacks from Connolly on the air and in the mail as he tried to paint Suzanne Sholte – human rights warrior and, well, woman – as bad on women’s rights. His attacks were laughable and ignored Scholte’s considerable background in human rights cases while glossing over Connolly’s support for terrorist regimes that treat women as property.
Connolly followed up these inane attacks with mailers over the last week that attempt to capitalize on human tragedy, turning these events into political gold for someone who seems to want to pander in platitudes instead of explaining to the people of his district why he voted for sequestration.
This time, he’s focusing on gun rights.
His first mailer was bad enough, invoking the image of the aftermath of a shooting on a playground:
The flip side accuses Suzzane Scholte of being in favor of killing babies because she received an A rating from the NRA.
Compared to Gerry Connolly’s support of killing babies because he received an A rating from Planned Parenthood and NARAL.
Ahem.
In Gerry Connolly’s twisted world, supporting the Second Amendment and even having the backing of the NRA means you must be pro-school shootings. Which is an asinine comparison to make.
But Connolly wasn’t done yet:
The Virginia Tech shooting was tragic. But for Gerry Connolly to be SMILING on the other side of a mailer trying to politically capitalize off of this horrible event is downright disgusting.
This is an issue that needs serious, thoughtful conversation — not just to be trotted out as an election year ploy to protect Connolly’s seat.
Gerry Connolly must be looking at some numbers and feeling uncomfortable considering he’s spending just about all of his warchest over the last month. It probably doesn’t help that Warner is only leading Gillespie by 6 points in NOVA according to the latest Christopher Newport University poll, which means downballot folks have gotta be sweating bullets.
These are the depths that Gerry Connolly is willing to go to continue to misrepresent his constituents in Virginia’s 11th District.
