Will Larry Sabato apologize for his racially insensitive comment?

I’ve learned a lot over the years from Democrats and I’ve learned a lot from Larry Sabato. Sabato taught me that you can be a Democrat activist and work for losing statewide campaigns, and that qualifies you to be a UVA Professor on the subject and become an expert on the job that you’ve failed at – political campaigns.

I also learned that Sabato doesn’t mind playing fast and loose with the facts when he went on national television to accuse Sen. George Allen of using the “n-word” and then, for the only time I can remember Sabato not rushing to be on camera, issuing a meek written statement that he never actually heard Allen say any “n-word” and he was just repeating rumors.

If Sabato was a student, he would be in violation of the UVA Code of Honor with that misrepresentation of hearsay and rumor as witnessed fact. UVA just patted him on the back and kept writing the checks to him.

So imagine my shock to read him in the Daily Progress talking about Republicans in what is, shall we say, a poor language choice.

Sabato said Howell has no reason politically to find a solution. “His base is happy when nothing happens. … He can’t lose on this with his tribe,” he said.

His WHAT?

Despite being categorically wrong and extremely left-wing partisan in his assertion, why inject racially-charged rhetoric into his statement?

While Democrat elected officials are telling a football team that its name is racist and the US Patent Office is cancelling trademarks for the team due to terminology that some say is offensive, Mr. Sabato should be extremely apologetic for using similar terms in his public statements.

I can understand if, back in his UVA student days, he used to throw terms like this around thoughtlessly and who knows, maybe someone out there heard from someone that he might have said them, and can go on TV saying he said them, and then issue a different statement later.

But Democrats have taught us that using these racially-tinged metaphors is improper and Sabato should apologize.

He should explain why he chose to use such insensitive language to describe Republicans. Did he think the rules he has applied to others shouldn’t apply to him?

The media probably thinks so.

But I am offended by Sabato’s racial insensitivity. Isn’t that all that matters?
