Comstock, Edmond, Walker, Colgate WIN – Open thread — 10th CD primary, 2nd, 6th CD conventions
It’s a busy Saturday in the commonwealth, as Republicans in the 10th congressional district go to the polls to choose their nominee, and the party stages conventions in the 2nd and 6th districts.
We’ve talked a great deal about the controversy in the 2nd district convention. But in the 6th, it’s a story from the past that is grabbing people’s attention, as former house Speaker Vance Wilkins seeks to make a comeback as district chairman.
The 10th CD race features a wide field of candidates and the 10 polling sites are open until 3 PM.
Consider this an open thread.
Update
Early word is that the slating of the Virginia Beach delegates in the 2nd CD has been overturned. Details to follow…
Update 2
Comstock wins in the 10th! Numbers provided by 10th District Chairman John Whitbeck:
Barbara J. Comstock – 7337
Howard R. “Howie” Lind – 1108
Stephen B. Hollingshead – 816
Mark S. Savitt – 218
Rob K. Wasinger – 301
Robert G. “Bob” Marshall – 3829
Wendell Walker has won the race for the 6th District Chairman
Update 3
Republicans in the 8th CD nominated Micah Edmond as their candidate to take on whichever candidate emerges from the crowded Democratic field:
Edmond defeated Army combat veteran Dennis Bartow at a nominating convention in Arlington where party delegates gathered. Former Texas state legislator Paul Haring finished a distant third.
At a Thursday candidate forum, Edmond, who is African American and converted to Judaism a young age, cast himself as moderate Republican. He said he is not bound by political ideology.
