Comstock makes it official: running for Congress in 10th

comstock_RNCThe Washington Free Beacon first reported late yesterday that Del. Barbara Comstock would make official today her rumored run at Congress in the seat vacated by the retiring Rep. Frank Wolf.

“I am running for Congress because I believe my strong record as a common sense conservative leader is what is needed in Congress,” wrote Comstock in a press release. “I know how to effectively fight for Northern Virginia’s hard working taxpayers having first learned from Congressman Wolf working in his congressional office.”

Comstock has been representing the 34th District in the House of Delegates since her election in 2009 and has championed conservative values, receiving a 95% rating from the American Conservative Union for her work last session.

“Common sense isn’t very common in Congress today, but in the state legislature, we have to operate within budget limits and produce results. I will bring that skill to Congress,” said Comstock.

During her legislative tenure, Comstock has worked on right to work legislation, expanding economic freedom and innovation – including efforts to make Virginia a leading energy producer, and cracking down on human trafficking.

Additionally, Comstock has been a fearless campaigner against the president’s policies that stifle job creation and freedom – not even being fazed by inane questioning on MSNBC. In 2012, she was prominently featured in the Republican National Convention and penned several op-ed’s for Bearing Drift during the campaign (OBAMA’S PRIORITIES ARE NOT VIRGINIA’S PRIORITIES, WOMEN ARE NOT “DOING FINE” IN THE OBAMA ECONOMY, and OUT OF TOUCH – DEMS NEED TO DO MORE THAN DISTANCE THEMSELVES FROM PRESIDENT).

Two of Comstock’s three elections in Fairfax and Loudoun have been close. In 2009, she defeated Margie Vanderhye by 422 votes; cruised to a win over Pamela Danner in 2011 with 54.8% of the vote; and narrowly defeated Kathleen Murphy by, ironically, also 422 votes this past November. However, despite her two narrow victories, she proved to be an exceptional fundraiser, raising nearly $3 million since 2009.

“I have a demonstrated record of winning important legislative victories for Northern Virginians as well as winning hard fought, principled elections. Whether it is repealing and replacing Obamacare, promoting policies for a healthier economy; or fighting to protect our national security and dedicated military; I will be a tireless advocate for one of the most vibrant and diverse communities in the Commonwealth and I will demand and work hard for common sense results.”

Comstock is likely to face at least one challenger for the GOP nod – party-crasher Traeq Salahi. A more serious opponent, State Sen. Dick Black, is undecided whether to run and has formed an exploratory committee.
