Republican Wayne Coleman declares candidacy for Northam’s vacated senate seat

Wayne Coleman, a Norfolk businessman, has announced his intention to run for the 6th Senate District seat encompassing Norfolk and the Eastern Shore that is now vacant due to the election of Democrat Ralph Northam as lieutenant governor.

The 6th District was held by Democrat Stanley Walker forever until defeated by two-time incumbent, Republican Nick Rerras. Rerras was defeated by Northam in 2007.

Here is Coleman’s statement:

“Virginia faces serious challenges, and our political system is broken. I’m a businessman, not a politician. I’ve spent my life balancing budgets and fixing problems. If we want better results from government, we’ve got to elect a different kind of leader. That’s why I’m running for State Senate, to get better results for my family and yours,” said Coleman.

Coleman is the C.E.O. and owner of CV International, Inc. headquartered in the 6th District in Norfolk. He touts in the release that he has over forty years of private sector experience, successfully created jobs, balanced budgets, and competed globally.

The release goes on to say that Coleman was born and raised in Tidewater and received his bachelor of science in business administration from Old Dominion University. He has been married to his wife Judy for thirty-five years and has three children and four grandchildren.
