Uninformed voters are a problem for Liberty. Many tea party members and conservatives complain about the lack of knowledge from some voters, and question the reason for their decision making process.
Conservatives, Tea Party voters and some others considering Corey Stewart for LG made me wonder: Is it his record on Taxes, Spending, Property Rights, Limited Government, or his Illegal Immigration Program that matters?
It is well known that Prince William County had the worse home market foreclosure rate in Northern Virginia when the housing market fell. Corey Stewart raised the tax rate we paid on property during this recession while many home values in the county were upside down. While we Tea Party people were protesting Obama’s higher rate on income taxes to fund the Federal government the same way Corey raised our tax rate, we did nothing here in Prince William County to protest higher local taxes.
We also complained about the Stimulus Bill of 2009. Corey Stewart publicly opposed the Stimulus Bill but he did not object to receiving the funds from the Obama Administration through Democrat Congressman Gerry Connolly; to the contrary, he complained that it was not enough “a drop in the bucket” and he begged for more. He wanted Connolly to secure at least 50 million and challenged him:
“This is going to be a test as to how much pull Gerry Connolly has inside his own party.”
Conservatives like Mark Obenshain and Rob Bell champion private property rights but Corey Stewart teamed up with Democrat Supervisor Frank Principi, in denying homeowners the right to rebuild their homes that had minimal damage from tropical Storm Lee. These homeowners unanimously won the case in the Board of Zoning Appeals decision and had every right to return to their homes. Corey Stewart portrays himself as Mr. RULE of LAW, but he pursued a suit against property owners in circuit court and convinced the Board of County Supervisors to go along with him by presenting bogus FEMA information to his fellow board members.
During this process, Corey Stewart used all power of the local government to deny private property owners their constitutional rights to their property.
These are not the actions of a limited government champion or a fighter of property rights.
The only thing left is immigration. Michael M. Hethmon, General Council of FAIR has described Corey Stewart’s interest in illegal immigration as a political issue that is election related. Politics aside, does Corey Stewart’s illegal immigration resolution have any TEETH? I had a project in Prince William County to build an addition to a school during 2012. This is my first public construction project in this county since 2007 (the other two projects I have had in this county were for private owners) so I saw first-hand the county’s performance with E-Verify.
Prince William County requires the use of E-Verify on public projects since 2009 but it does not have the structure to verify if the workers in these public jobs are legal.
I work in other counties and federal jobs where our company submits a list of employees’ info, and in some cases, they fingerprint our employees to verify that the person matches the name. In addition, they would examine their IDs in person before entering the job site to make sure the employees are legitimate.
No such verification process happens in Prince William County.
We will have to sell our LG nominee to the public as the candidate travels with Ken, Obie or Mr. Bell. However, I know Corey Stewart would be ineffective for our ticket as we talk about less taxes, limited government, less spending, or immigration policy.
Corey Stewart can use phony math, but we pay higher rates on a less valued property. Corey received Stimulus money and complained because he did not receive more for pet spending projects. Stewart talks about protecting Constitutional Rights but he demonstrated and teamed up with the wrong crowd — Democrat Principi — to abuse property rights.
Corey’s immigration policy is pure demagoguery with no muscle because his developer friends in Prince William County do not have to comply with E-verify.
In the end, we have only Talking Points from Corey and he is still UNFIT.
