Retiring State Senator Harry Blevins (R-Chesapeake) has endorsed Delegate John Cosgrove to be his successor:
Though I have decided to retire from the Senate, I feel a responsibility to make sure my constituents continue to have a strong voice in the General Assembly. In my mind, there is only one candidate worthy of serving the 14th Senate District, my friend Delegate John Cosgrove.
When I ran for the Senate in 2001, John won my old seat in the House of Delegates and he has been a great ally in Richmond ever since. John has lived and worked in the district for the past 24 years, raising two children here. He understands the people of this district and the issues we face and he has a record to show it.
In the General Assembly, I can always trust where John stands and he has received numerous awards from the Chamber of Commerce for his pro business stances, possesses an A+ rating with the NRA, and has consistently voted to protect our traditional family values.
I trust John’s integrity, commitment to principle, and love of this district and the people who make it so special. I have no doubt that you will be blessed by his leadership…Please join me on May 9 by coming out to support John, the only candidate who truly knows our district and has a proven record of representing the people of our district.
There is little doubt of Cosgrove’s positions on many of the values shared by voters in the 14th District:
* As mentioned above, he has an A+ Rating from the NRA
* Carried the original Marriage Amendment to the Virginia Constitution in 2005
* Chaired the Privileges and Elections subcommittee that killed bills for same day registration and other bills that would encourage voter fraud. This subcommittee also passed bills requiring photo ID for voting.
* Carried the bill that reorganized SPSA – which has been a success because now they’re paying off their debt and are a much better business model.
* Carried the bill that reorganized Hampton Roads Transit so that business people are appointed to the Board.
* 100 % Pro-Life. Carried HB1 in 2004 that made it a double murder to kill a pregnant woman and cause the death of her unborn child. He also supported the bill that would require abortion clinics to have the same protections as hospitals.
Cosgrove has a record that is pro-family, a defender of our Constitutional rights, an advocate against voter fraud, strong on the economy, and a reformer of inefficient bureacracy – all of which certainly helped him receive Blevins’ endorsement and is likely to lead to several others in the near future.
