Ron Meyer, Age 23, Announces His Official Bid to Become Nation’s Youngest Congressman

Herndon, Va. – Ron Meyer, a communications professional and youth spokesperson, announced Monday on Fox News’ Your World Cavuto that he filed to run for U.S. Congress in Virginia’s 11th District in 2014.
At age 23, Meyer would be among the youngest ever elected to Congress (turning 25 on September 28, 2014). Meyer has been endorsed by former Congressman Artur Davis, who was the co-chair for President Obama’s 2008 campaign and a 2012 Republican National Convention speaker.
Former Congressman Tom Davis also spoke in support of Meyer at his kickoff event earlier this month. Davis, who held the 11th District seat for seven terms (1995-2008), served as the Chairman of the House Government Reform Committee from 2003 to 2007.
“Ron is a rising star in the Republican Party,” Davis said in response to Meyer’s announcement. “He has the ability to connect with ethnic voters, young people, and Independents as well.”
Meyer thanked Davis, saying, “It is an honor to receive Congressman Tom Davis’ help so early in this race. His mentorship has been invaluable, and no one understands how to build a compelling personal relationship with Northern Virginia voters better than Tom.”
Meyer also released this statement on why he is running:
I’m launching this run for Congress because I believe it is unjust, immoral, and unfair to leave an unsustainable, debt-ridden government to younger generations. Yet, for the last decade, politicians in both parties have punted our greatest challenges to future leaders.
If Washington’s politicians insist on punting the toughest choices—on debt, Social Security, and Medicare—to young Americans and future leaders, it’s time for a young American to lead now.
It seems the more “experience” politicians gain, the more they lose their integrity and forget how to balance a budget. With debt interest payments set to triple over the next decade, Congress needs a game-changer to balance the budget, save Social Security and Medicare, and preserve federal pensions.
The Connolly plan leads to endless sequestration. Mine leads to a sustainable government.
Meyer is the only Republican currently filed to challenge incumbent Congressman Gerry Connolly (VA-11), who nearly lost the seat in 2010—holding on by just 900 votes (less than 1%).
