Saslaw Unloads on Senate Republicans, Vows to Retaliate

By John Fredericks

On The John Fredericks Morning Show, which airs live from the nation’s capital and is heard in Baltimore, MD, Washington, D.C. and throughout Virginia, State Senate Minority Leader Dick Saslaw (D-Fairfax) blasted Senate Republicans over Monday’s surprise Senate redistricting legislation.

Saslaw called Senate Majority leader Tommy Norment (R-Newport News) a liar and threatened to hold up all GOP inspired legislation in the 2013 general assembly session as retaliation.

When asked is that was fair to the citizens of the Commonwealth, Saslaw again blamed the Republicans for being the catalyst for his decision to stonewall legislation.

Saslaw also took exception to Virginia entrepreneur and businessman Republican candidate for Lt. Governor Pete Snyder’s criticism, calling Snyder a “nut job” and a nobody from nowhere. “I’ve been in Northern Virginia for 40 plus-years and I’ve never heard of this guy,” Saslaw bellowed.

Snyder shot back, coining Saslaw’s comments “pathetic” and claimed the state senator is “symbiotic of what’s wrong with Richmond.” Snyder launched a statewide radio ad today taking Saslaw to task for what Snyder called his public “temper tantrum.”

Another GOP candidate for Lt. Governor, Jeannemarie Davis — a former state senator — said she would have voted for the initiative and added, “Saslaw and Senate Democrats had it coming” based on what they did to Republicans when the Democrats controlled the state senate.
