Snyder picks a winnerPolitics

You have to give Pete Snyder credit. He’s running a creative campaign.

Last month, he released a Christmas-themed mailer complete with a Christmas sweater, a candidate comparison between the Grinch v. the Abominable Snowman, and concluded by giving “Glory to God in the Highest” and asking for folks to donate to Pregnancy Resource Centers of Virginia.

In his latest email fundraiser, Snyder writes:

Nothing unites Virginians, and indeed the entire country, more than defeating The Big D — and by that I mean Dallas (though I dislike debt almost as much if not more… but that’s another story for another time).

Personally, as a die-hard Detroit Lions’ fan (and Snyder also added in his email that he’s a rabid Eagles’ fan), I must agree and this opening salvo definitely caught my attention.

Apparently it caught the attention of others as well. Snyder reports that the playoff promotion raised more than $21,000 on the 31st for his LG campaign.

Of course, the effectiveness of the fundraiser may not have been just because Dallas is so despised by all loyal NFC fans.

It might have had something to do with the fact that the Redskins are going to the playoffs, and because supporters had the opportunity to be rewarded with two tickets to Sunday’s game with the Seahawks and some BBQ and tailgating with Pete and his campaign side-kick bbq smoker: “@PetesPigRig“.

And now we know the winner.

In a first for Bearing Drift, and a first for this campaign, we’re pleased to announce that Vicki Alvord of Reston, Va is the lucky contest winner going to Sunday’s home playoff game.

Congratulations, Vicki! Bring on Seattle and Hail to the Redskins!

As a Cowboys fan in Northern Virginia, this does not sit well with me.

As someone who realizes that it’s just a game and life will go on Monday, I find Snyder’s campaign refreshing.
