What do George Allen and Ron Paul have in common?Politics

Most political folks know that one of Rep. Ron Paul’s more potent rally cries is “end the Fed” (which is also the title of his book on the subject of the Federal Reserve system). Paul has also been a driving force on bills to audit the fed.

Imagine my surprise to learn that George Allen was also leading a charge to audit the Federal Reserve. As a member of the Virginia House of Delegates back in 1986 (click on image to embiggen):

And for the curious, here’s the legislative history…

The measure passed the House and was quietly killed in the Senate, most likely by the late Sen. Hunter Andrews — which goes to show that not much has changed in Virginia in the last 25 years.

Do you know who voted against that resolution? LIS doesn’t go back that far.

  • Eric McGrane

Relevance? If the purpose was to give Ron Paul supporters a “tie-in” to Allen, there’s plenty of evidence from more-recent history that indicates ideas contrary to Paul’s principles. At least more recent than nearly 25 years ago.

Norm, you are referring to when I was an avid democrat Allen supporter. After 2000 I was expecting Allen to kick ass in the senate but whoa nelly was I disappointed.

Eric, it’s one of those “well, that’s interesting” moments. It’s even more so when reading the text. It could have been written by Paul in 2009, showing, again, that there really is nothing new under the sun.

The difference Norm is that Paul has been consistent, Allen has not. Today we have Paul Version 1.0, Allen 2.1.

Audit the Fed? Or End the Fed?

  • http://bearingdrift.com Norman Leahy

Gotcha. Though who was it that said consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds?

    I’m kidding, Turbo…

One thing Allen and Paul do not have in common is Jamie Radtke. Rest assured that Ron and Rand support Jamie Radtke in this race..

*Rest assured that Ron and Rand support Jamie Radtke in this race…*

    So, that makes…three?

Seriously though, have either publicly endorsed her? If they have I’ve missed it.

  • MIkey

And if they did back George Allen you can bet Jamie Radtke would attack them for being RINOs like the NRA and American Conservative Union. Gosh, even Sen. Ron Johnson is a squishy RINO in the Radtkeverse…

Ask Jamie… Man up and ask yourself. Then be courageous and post your findings.

  • MD Russ

If Ron and Rand Paul have endorsed Radtke, she is keeping it a secret.

Too bad that was 1986 and not 2006.

@Turbo, I don’t need to ask. Because if she had their endorsements we’d be hearing about it all over the place, unless her campaign is more of a disaster than even we thought.

I don’t put much stock in “silent but deadly” endorsements.
